Acoss The Plains

Across the Plains was done in the early 1970's when I worked as a janitor in a High School during the summer months. I was at attending St. Mary's College and this was probably done in 1973.

I've always been fascinated by indians- maybe it was my father's arrowhead collection or the Western movies I loved to watch on TV. Indians were always a heroic figure and somehow I wished time would suddenly change back to the 1500s and the indians would reign supreme over their land again.

I got the idea for my painting from an old black and white photo my parents had in a book. At some point I'll do some more indian painting but they won't be a recreation of what was.
