Shell size to 18 mm; shell with low spire, large body whorl. Sculpture extremely variable, with strong radial cords and axial ridges. Outer lip with internal ridges. Color grayish-white to reddish-brown.

Modulidae, common name modulids,[2] is a family of small sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Cerithioidea.[4]

According to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) the family Modulidae has no subfamilies.
