Eastern Oyster (Duck Foot Shell)

Eastern Oyster
Crassostrea virginica (Gmelin, 1791)

Eastern Oysters are a common shell on S. Hutchinson Island beaches. I collect some versions of thin Eastern Oysters because they resemble the form of a foot iwth toes or hands. The toes appear at times to be webbed hence the title "Duck's foot" shells. Small thin versions of this oyster also resemble  the Kitten's Paw shells which are from Family Plicatulidae.
